What is 301 redirects ?

301 redirects, a method of redirecting an old web page url to a new address. With 301 redirects, old link is permanently moved to a new address and it is a search engine friendly way of redirecting webpage.
Example :
http://www.oldexamplesite.com.au/oldpage.html [ Old Webpage ]
301 Permanently Moved to 
http://www.newexample.com.au/newpage.html [ New Webpage ]

With this redirection, if visitors click on http://www.oldexamplesite.com.au/oldpage.html, they are redirected to http://www.newexample.com.au/newpage.html.

The requested resource has been assigned a new permanent URI and any future references to this resource SHOULD use one of the returned URIs.

  2. 301 redirects are a form of refocus which you can put on an old website to refocus any visitors which comes to it to a new particular URL, hence the name redirect. This is very easy to do but can preserve you a lot of problems later.
